OFF-FIELD RULES
- This League is designed to get players ready for the High School Season. Playing indoors means there will be some "different" rulings than on a regulation diamond. Please understand that the umpires will do their best to get these "different" rulings correct.
- Your High School coach is not allowed to coach the team (CIAC Rule). This only applies to High School Teams.
- All fees must be paid in full before playing in a game.
- Every player (and parent) must sign the Star Hill waiver before playing in a game.
- January 24th - No Games @ 10:00am & 12:00pm
- February 7th - No Games @ 6:00pm & 8:00pm (Super Bowl Sunday)
- Playoffs will be on a ranking system according to final standings - this assures all teams of playing 8 games. In the event of a tie in ranking, the tie will be broken by head to head result; if 3-way tie then least runs allowed for the season will be the tie-breaker. See schedule for times.
- Games are cancelled due to weather ONLY IF STAR HILL IS CLOSED. Games will not be made up due to availability.
ON-FIELD RULES
- All contests are 7 innings or 2 hours, whichever comes first. No half inning will start after 1 hour and 45 minutes unless Home Team is tied or behind. There is no mercy rule.
- All games will start ON TIME. There is no pre-game infield, etc. Please arrive early enough to get loose before the game. You will be allowed to get loose (stretching & throwing) in the area next to the field (track area). If you would like to take some swings before the game, there is a batting cage available to use for soft toss, t-work, etc. - this will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Home & Away Teams are listed on the schedule.
- All players must be in uniform. ( Baseball City League shirt or same color shirt / baseball pants - teams should have same color pants - white or grey -no sweatpants or shorts / baseball hat - high school or travel team hat)
- All players must wear turf shoes, sneakers or molded cleats - NO METAL SPIKES.
- Coaches should exchange line-up cards before the game - batting order only. Two options for lineups: 1) Hit the entire lineup - you are then allowed free substitution - everyone hits in the same order the entire game 2) Have a 9-man lineup - Professional substitution then applies - once you come out of the game, you are out of the game. Umpires are not involved in monitoring this. It is up to the coaches to monitor other teams batting order.
- Every ball is live off the nets. The umpire will award bases on his discretion if the ball either becomes tangled in the net or leaves the field of play. The umpire will award bases only on a true passed ball. The ball must be lodged in or under the net behind the catcher - otherwise play the ball off the net - it is live.
- Any ball hitting the Dome or overhead structures (first) in the area of the infield in fair territory is an automatic fly out. We will use the metal seam just beyond 3rd base and 2nd base and the seam just beyond 1st base and 2nd base where the 3rd bank of lights are attached to (counting up from right field). The umpires will point out to the coaches these seams before the game. If the ball hits the Dome or overhead structures in foul territory, the ball is foul.
- Any ball clearing the left field net is a homerun. This applies even if the batted ball "skips" off the Dome (passed the area of the infield that is an automatic fly out).
- The only way to hit a homerun to right field is if the ball manages to go behind the net (only a few feet opening between the net and the Dome). This applies even if the batted ball "skips" off the Dome (passed the area of the infield that is an automatic fly out).
- Stealing is allowed.
- Runner must slide directly into 2nd base on a potential double play ball. Sliding to "take out" is an automatic double play. This is at the umpire's discretion.
- Runner must slide into all bases. "Taking out" the catcher will be an automatic out and immediate ejection from the game.
- If you are ejected from the game by the umpire, you will be out of the next game as well. After a second infraction, the player will be ejected from the League.
- Profanity and excessive arguing will not be tolerated. Again, this is a League to get you ready for the High School Season.
- High School Federation rules govern the League with exceptions listed.
*These Rules are subject to change as the League moves forward to better the game*
