GROUP FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
All in One: get your blood pumping with this cardio and strength training.
Aqua Aerobics: suitable for all skill levels and is safe for no-swimmers. The pool provides many benefits when used for aerobic exercise and resistance training.
Barre: total body low impact sculpting workout that is a fusion of yoga, Pilates, strength training and ballet, emphasizing the toning of all major muscle groups.
Cardio Dance: is a hybrid of dance choreography and cardio exercises set to music, creating a heart-pumping workout to keep your body in constant motion.
Cycle: pedal your way to hill climbs and sprints... The class is set to exciting music tracks providing an excellent workout that improves cardiovascular conditioning. All levels are welcome.
Group Blast™: is 60 minutes of athletic cardio training that uses "The Step" in a wide variety of ways. This highly effective workout will get your heart pounding and sweat pouring as you improve your cardio fitness, agility, coordination, power, and strength with exciting music and motivational coaching. HAVE A BLAST!
Group Centergy™: will restore your entire body and your mind. Enhance your fitness, improve your health, and enrich your overall well-being with an athletic mind-body workout that combines yoga and Pilates styles with targeted training for the legs, hips, shoulders, back, and core. Group Centergy is truly for everyone, transcending boundaries of age, gender, and fitness levels. The functional movements and inspiring soundtracks will help you CENTER YOUR ENERGY!
Group Fight™: is an explosive cardio workout fueled by MMA moves to strengthen the entire body. You are your own opponent in this high-energy experience that borrows training styles from mixed martial arts, kickboxing, Muay Thai, karate, and more! Group fight is for anyone wanting a challenging, athletic, and motivational workout that shatters your body in one hour. If you want to kick-start your fitness, then your have to FIGHT FOR IT!
Group Power™: maximize your workout results with one hour of cutting-edge strength training! Get muscle and movement strong when combining traditional strength training with functional exercises and the revolutionary science of Loaded Movement Training, using an adjustable barbell, body weight and heart pounding music. POWER UP!
Silver Sneakers Classic™: designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and improve activities for daily living. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support. This class can be modified depending on fitness levels.
Yoga: in this class postures are practiced to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques and meditation are also integrated.
Walking Circuit: get your steps and strength in this class, held in the dome!
Zumba™: is a workout that mixes low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party.
Zumba Gold™: active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity.
OTHER OFFERINGS
Pickle Ball: The fastest growing sport that incorporates tennis, badminton, ping pong and racquetball. Players use a Pickle Ball racquet and hit a wiffle ball over a low net. The game is played in the Dome.
Senior Softball: all levels welcome, male and female, no teams, just free play. Come join the fun in the Dome!

Star Hill Group Fitness Instructors
Tori Baker is a freshman at Springfield College where she majors in athletic training and minors in dance. Her future goal is to become an athletic trainer for dancers. She is a licensed Zumba instructor and also aqua aerobics. She has been teaching aqua aerobics for 3 years and has created a whole new family doing it. Tori always gives 110% every class and likes to see her students smile as they enjoy exercising.
Bridget Blake has been teaching group fitness for 14 years and teaches formats such as Cycle, Step, Group Power and Aqua. She enjoys working out and teaching aerobics in her spare time. Bridget enjoys working out in the group format as she believes we are all inspired by others and motivation is a key to success. Bridget works at Hartford Superior Court and stays busy raising two young children.
Lori Calvert began her love of martial arts in 2000 when she began teaching both cardio and contact kickboxing. In 2011, she became a certified Yoga teacher and enjoys teaching both kids and adults. She loves fitness in all its forms and continues to expand her horizons with a Silver Sneakers certificationa and the potential for more to come. A nature lover, she is also a fan of dogs and children.
Linda Carlson is a certified AFFA and NDEITA Group Fitness Instructor who teaches Cardio, Dance, STEP, Kickboxing and Strength classes. Linda is also certified by BTS to teach Centergy, a Yoga/Pilates type movement class and is a certified ICG Cycle instructor. Linda is a public school educator who has served the middle school population as a teacher, counselor and school principal.
Andrea Eastman is from Rhode Island but moved to CT in 2013. She has a Master's degree in Career Counseling and by day is a Human Resources Generalist for a non-profit organization in Hartford. In her spare time she enjoys watching her son swim, cooking, reading, and exercising. She's been a regular gym goer for over 25 years. Her first love was Step Aerobics, but she's grown to equally adore Spinning, Strength Training, and Running. Andrea believes that commitment yields rewards; if you make exercise part of your lifestyle and find somethin that works for you, success is within reach. She lives in Tolland with her husband, son, and two tuxedo cats.
Terry Govostes resides in Tolland with her husband Steve and her cat Peete. She is a Purchasing Commodity Mgr. at Gerber Scientific, where she has worked for the past 20 years. Her passion is to help otheres to eat healthy, keep moving and to reach their fitness goals. she is certified by Mossa to teach Centergy, Yoga and a Pilates inspired class that promotes overall strength, health and wellness. Terry's other loves include: spending time with her grandson Owen, traveling, gardentin and healty cooking.
August Hayes has been teaching cycling classes for over seven yearas. He enjoys traveling, outdoor adventures, mountain biking, hockey and carpentry. August lives in Tolland with his family and is an architecural project designer/manager. His fitness philosophy is "Changes comes with work. If you aren't putting in the work, don't expect the change."
Sheri Henderson Sheri has been a licensed Zumba Instructor since 2009 and has been an instructor at Star Hill since 2012. She is also a certified AFAA Group Fitness Instructor. Sheri also teaches Tone and Pump and Abs Blaster. She is currently teaching high energy, fun-filled classes and says, "I was born to do this and truly love every class I teach and the people in them!" "This class is for all...any shape...any size... any age... any fitness ability!" Sheri resides in Stafford Springs where she owns a busy deli/convience store. She is married and has two daughters who inspire her daily with their dancing!!
Glorimar Hickman has been in the fitness industry for 13 years. Certifid by AFAA Group Fitness, Spinning, and Zumba. Glorimar enjoys spending quality time with her three children, her granddaughters, her husband and members at Star Hill. She is a Director of a Telecommunications Consulting firm and a University of Hartford alumni.
Laura Jacques believes Yoga is very important to her life. Yoga quiets her mind and makes her feel more relaxed and at ease. In the adventures she has taken so far in life, breath has been there to guide her on her path. Her love for Yoga prompted her to earn her 200 hour Yoga Alliance certificate in 2009 and she has been teaching Yoga ever since. Laura loves teaching Yoga and will continue to be present as a teacher and student. Laura started training clients, which led her to get her personal training certificate in 2014. Laura lives in Andover with her 2 daughters, husband and many animals!
Stephanie Lippman has been teaching Yoga since 2008 when she was certified through YogaFit. She got her start in Yoga when she began taking classes her Freshman year of college, and then began teaching at her school's fitness center for the start of her Sophomore year. Stephanie enjoys teacing Vinyasa, Kripalu and Power Yoga styles. While Yoga is her main focus, she has also taught Pilates, Aqua Aerobics, Zumba and more. Stephanie believes that Yoga has positively impacted her life both mentally and physically, and can do the same for everyhone!
Stephen "Lucky" Luckingham has over 30 years of Tai Chi experience. Lucky is a Master of Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan, most noted by its slow graceful movements that provide profound health and healilng benefits. Yan Style is the most common, practiced by people of China early in the morning before starting their work day, which makes this the most popular form to learn. Having started martial arts at an early age, Lucky has earned 3 Black Belts in Judo, JuJitsu and Kenpo. He has also achieved intermediate ranks in 6 other mainline disciplines as follows: Tai Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, Moo Duk Kwon, Tong Leong (Praying Mantis), Aikidok Kiyokushinkai, and Dendo
Bryan Martinez is a passionate AFAA certified and Zumba licensed group exercise instructor and educator. He holds a bachelor of science degree in Allied Health from University of Connecticut and enjoys empowering his students with the gift of health and wellness through exercise. Bryan believes that it's never too early or too late to become active and healthy. As an exercise instructor in an ever-changing fitness industry, he is constantly and consistently taking continuing education courses, led by top-notch fitness professionals to learn new teaching, coaching and motivating skills. As a participant in his classes, you can expect dedication and enthusiasm in each and every class. He is committed to bring you positilve and memorable fitness experiences that will hook you into coming back for more!
Kelli Peters teaches group cycle and Insanity Live. She began taking indoor cycle classes in college and fell in love with the hight intensity and endorphins very quickly! Becoming a certified instructor was her 30th birthday present to herself and she has had so much fun teaching at Star Hill and perfecting her teaching skills! Kelli is also a Team Beachbody Coach, which is how she was introduced to Insanaity Live. She received her certification from the Insanity Live format expert this past September. She loves teaching this high intensity class and seeing every one sweat from head to toe! Kelli is a stay at home mom of two blue eyed girls and lives on Bolton Lake with her husband and girls.
Lori Riordan is our Fitness Director and personal trainer. She comes to us with over 14 years of experience in the health and fitness industry. She is trained in, and teaches Yoga, Pilates, Kickboxing, Aquatic Fitness, Cycling, and a variety of other disciplines that she incorporates into her workouts. She also has an avid interest in diet and nutrition. Lori resides in Tolland and enjoys being part of the Star Hill Family!
Jen Szall weighed over 200 pounds eight years ago and never stepped into a gym in her entire life, but she learned to love group fitness and becam a certified Group Power and Group Fight instructor. Jen also appeared on the Oprah Show in 2008 and the Dr. Oz Show in 2010 for her weight loss success story and getting off all medications as she became healthy and fit!
Merry Ellen Tursi brings to our facility 30+ years of experience as an occupational therapist and aquatic instructor, holding degrees in O.T. and sports and leisure management. Her credentials include; Red Cross CPR instructor, WSI, AEA, AFAAA, with specialities in personal training, adaptive aquatics, land/water arthritis, pilates, AiChi, pregancy/postpartum, cycling and fall prevention. She is extremely passionate teaching all ages. Merry Ellen states, "I have worked with both children and adults, with and without disabilities. I love seeing the smiles of success they achieve through fun exercise and we CAN achieve fitness together."
Roseanne Wiggins is an East Coast native, married mom of 6 kids. She received her paralegal degree from Johnson and Wales university and by day is an executive legal assistant at a personal law injury firm in West Hartford. By night she pursues her real passion of physical fitness. Roseanne enjoys helping others see their physical capabilities and assists them in transforming their bodies through boot camp, cycle and other group fitness classes.
